Yoga Level Descriptions
Beginners
This class is for those who are new to Yoga or the Iyengar method. The focus is on standing poses, arm work and seated poses. Forward bending, twisting and backbending is introduced. Students are introduced to their bodies and taught how to relax deeply.
Continuing Beginners I/II
For students who have completed several sessions of Yoga Basics or are new to the Iyengar method but have prior experience. Prone backbendings, basic abdominal asanas are introduced and new forward extensions and twists are added. Salamba Sarvangasana (shoulder stand) and Halasana is learned in a progressive manner.
Intermediate II
For students who are ready to deepen their already established Yoga practice. Students have been well prepared to learn Sirsasana (Headstand) and variations in Salamba Sarvangasana (Shoulderstand) is introduced.
Restorative / Pranayama
Breath control
Restorative poses soften the pelvic and abdominal organs, open the lungs, and replenish the heart. They bring a deep sense of inner stillness to the throat, ears, eyes and brain and release chronically held tension in the nerves. Once the body is open and the mind is still, the practice of Pranayama lights up the pathway to the heart.
