WE ARE GABRIELLE SIGAL IYENGAR YOGA
In addition to being a former modern/contemporary dancer and Certified Personal Trainer, I am a Certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher and a Certified Yoga Therapist. I have studied with Senior Teacher Joan White since 1996, and visited RIMYI in 2019 to study with the Iyengar family. I value the discipline, the precision and the systematic method of Iyengar Yoga. I also value the tradition and the lineage that we share. BKS Iyengar helped make yoga accessible to everyone and devoted his entire life to sharing his knowledge which continues to be handed down to us. When I decided to teach, I initially had no idea what a huge responsibility teaching requires. Part of the responsibility I feel is to share yoga with as many people as I can. To this day I am as excited as ever to keep doing just that.
What is Iyengar Yoga?
Iyengar yoga is deeply rooted in Patanjali's Yoga Sutras. It is recognized for it's thorough exploration of asana as it relates to the student physically, emotionally, spiritualy, physiologically, and psychologically.
An Iyengar class is safe and has a sequence that is systematic, it is designed to build on individual's skill from pose to pose and class to class. Like other styles of yoga, practitioners will build stamina, concentration, and flexibility. But, mostly will understand proper body alignment. Some poses may be held to focus on form and pricise alignment. Students will sharpen their skills of observation and how the poses affect their physical and mental states. Unique to Iyengar Yoga:
precise use of language
integration of philosophy
use of props to deepen understanding of actions in poses
highest standards of training
